Your order is dug and the plants tagged for identification. Roots are cleaned and inspected. |
|
We pack the roots in peat moss and plastic bags. This keeps your roots moist while in transit. A simple method that works well. |
|
Your plants are individually wrapped to keep the leaves in place. Packing material is used to keep the plants from shifting. We enclose a detailed Planting Guide-filled with seasonal tips. |
Q. Will
my plant foliage look like this when my order arrives?
A. Certainly...If you order mid-summer. The plants
displayed here have mid-summer top growth. We start shipping in
the spring when the eyes begin to emerge. We use the same packing
method all season. If your order arrives in the spring, your plants
could be emerging eyes, emerging leaves, young leaves...a growth
process that continues all season.

unless ordered for early spring delivery prior to leaf emergence.
Hosta top growth and root size varies with the mature size of the plant. Tiny hostas have tiny roots, tiny eyes, and tiny leaves. Mid-size have mid-size and so on. We used hostas from the small Allan P. McConnell to the extra large Blue Angel in these photos. We ship a quality plant so your garden will have a "jump start". We encourage you to read our Plant Size section. This is our dictionary for size shipped per variety. We talk in terms of eyes. As a value conscious shopper, we know you want to compare.
Q. Do
you trim leaves when you ship my order?
A. Sometimes...But this is conducted judiciously.
We never "be-head" your plants unless we discuss this
with you in advance. After all, when you open your box and unwrap
the plants, we want to make a good presentation...then, and in
your garden. We realize our customers want not only a quality
root system but also lots of top growth.
